What should I do if a diesel generator emits white smoke?

Jul 27, 2024

If a diesel generator emits white smoke during use, don't worry. Generally, white smoke is divided into gray-white smoke and water vapor white smoke. First, analyze these two colors of smoke based on external reasons.

1. Gray-white smoke: The fuel entering the cylinder of the diesel generator set is not burned well, and part of the fuel evaporates into gas vapor and is discharged along with the exhaust gas. The main reasons are analyzed as follows:

(1) The oiler needle valve is stuck in the open position;

(2) The oiler spray atomization is not good;

(3) The diesel generator set fuel supply advance angle is too small;

(4) The power is seriously insufficient;

(5) The operating temperature is too low;

(6) Thermostat is damaged;

(7) The coolant temperature sensor is damaged;

(8) The diesel generator set thermal system is faulty.

2. Water vapor white smoke: Water enters the combustion chamber and vaporizes under heat. The main reasons are as follows:

(1) There is water in the fuel;

(2) The cylinder gasket of the diesel generator set is burned;

(3) There are cracks in the cylinder or cylinder head.

The above is a fault analysis of the two types of white smoke generated by diesel generator sets after long-term use. If there is a problem, it must be dealt with in time to ensure better work in the future. If you have any questions, please consult us specifically.
