Causes of abnormal voltage of diesel generator sets.

Jun 13, 2024

The voltage of diesel generator sets is abnormal during use. Let's take a look at the causes and treatment methods of the abnormality.

1. When the excitation current of the diesel generator is adjusted to make the generator reactive to the minimum allowable limit, the bus voltage is still higher than the voltage curve specified by the duty officer. The duty officer should immediately report to the duty officer for processing.
2. When the 220kV bus voltage is higher than the voltage curve range specified by the duty officer, the excitation current of the generator should be adjusted in time without waiting for the duty officer's order to make the bus voltage normal.
3. When the 220kV bus voltage is lower than the voltage curve range specified by the duty officer, the reactive power of the unit should be adjusted without waiting for the duty officer's order. If the bus voltage still cannot return to normal after the rated output, the duty officer should immediately report to the duty officer to request the system to adjust the voltage.
4. When the plant bus voltage is reduced to the "minimum operating voltage", in order to prevent voltage collapse, unnecessary plant power loads should be reduced immediately to restore the plant bus voltage to above the "minimum operating voltage" and report to the duty officer.
5. If the system voltage and frequency of the diesel generator are reduced at the same time, it should be handled according to the method for handling frequency reduction accidents.
