When A Diesel Generator Set Gives A High Temperature Warning, Pay Attention To These Points.

Jun 30, 2024

When a diesel generator set gives a high temperature warning, pay attention to these points!

When a diesel generator set runs in summer or for a long time continuously, it may give a high temperature warning, in which case the machine should be stopped for inspection and safety hazards should be eliminated. If the machine is running in high temperature conditions, it may cause problems such as cylinder pulling or explosion, power drop, lubricating oil viscosity decrease, and increased friction between parts.

What are the common causes of high temperature alarm in diesel generator sets?
1. Long-term overloading operation: When the diesel engine operates for a long time at high load, its fuel consumption will increase and its thermal load will rise, causing the water temperature to be too high. Therefore, it should be avoided that the diesel engine operates for a long time at high load.
2. Insufficient coolant: Regularly check the coolant level in the radiator and the expansion tank. When the level is low, it should be replenished in time. If there is no coolant in the diesel engine cooling system, it will affect the cooling effect of the diesel engine and cause it to overheat.
3. Interference between cooling devices: If the hydraulic oil cooler and the water cooler are placed one after the other, when the hydraulic oil temperature is too high, it will inevitably cause the cold air intake side of the water cooler to have a higher temperature, affecting the cooling of the water cooler. Therefore, check the cooling of the hydraulic system and reduce the impact of the hydraulic oil cooler on the poor cooling of the diesel engine water cooler. 4. Fan belt is too loose or fan is deformed: Regularly check the fan belt of the diesel engine to see if it is loose or if the fan shape is abnormal. Because the fan belt is too loose, it is easy to cause the fan speed to decrease, resulting in the radiator not being able to fully exercise its cooling ability, causing the diesel engine temperature to be too high. In addition, the deformation of the fan will also cause the radiator's cooling ability to not be fully exercised.
5. Dirt is attached to the surface of the radiator: Dirt attached to the surface of the radiator is the most common phenomenon. The dirt attached will reduce the radiator's heat dissipation area and the radiator's wind-facing area, causing the radiator's cooling ability to be reduced, resulting in the diesel engine being too hot. Therefore, it should be regularly cleaned.
6. Coolant circulation is not smooth: The opening of the thermostat is insufficient, which will reduce the cooling ability of the diesel engine's cooling system in the large circulation. If the diesel engine is too hot, the thermostat can be heated by being placed in water for inspection. The normal opening distance of the thermostat is usually 8-10mm.
Tip: If the water pump performance is poor, it will cause the coolant flow to decrease, resulting in the diesel engine being too hot.
When checking the upper and lower water chambers of the radiator, the temperature difference between the upper and lower water chambers is generally 6-12°C. If it is too small, replace the water pump. If there is too much scale on the water pump, it will also affect the heat dissipation efficiency of the fins inside the radiator and reduce the heat conduction ability of the coolant and cold air. For this reason, the diesel engine cooling system should be regularly cleaned, and the use of low-quality coolants should be avoided to reduce the formation of scale.
The temperature in summer is higher, so users should pay more attention to maintaining good ventilation and cooling when using diesel generators. They should also prepare the machine properly before use and consult the manufacturer about the functions of the machine when purchasing.
