What is a mixed flow pump? Working principle and characteristics of mixed flow pump.

Mar 28, 2024

A mixed flow pump is a machine that relies on the mixing of centrifugal force and axial thrust to transport liquids.

1. Working principle of mixed flow pump
The working principle of a mixed flow pump is that when the prime mover drives the impeller to rotate, the effect on the liquid is both centrifugal force and axial thrust. It is a combination of a centrifugal pump and an axial flow pump. Therefore, the mixed flow pump is a kind of pump between the centrifugal pump and the axial flow pump.
The speed of the mixed flow pump is higher than the centrifugal pump and lower than the axial flow pump, generally between 300-500.
The head of the mixed flow pump is higher than that of the axial flow pump, but lower than that of the centrifugal pump; the flow rate is smaller than that of the axial flow pump, but larger than that of the centrifugal pump. Its performance range: flow rate 90~9000m³/hour, lift 3.5~22 meters.

Mixed flow pumps are mainly used for agricultural drainage and irrigation, and are also used for urban drainage. They can be used as circulating water pumps in thermal power stations.
