Before selecting a diesel generator set, you should first clarify the relationship between the five major powers in the diesel generator set parameters, namely apparent power, active power, rated power, maximum power and economic power. Many people confuse their definitions. Here we will help you sort them out for easier understanding.
(1) The unit of apparent power is KVA.
(2) Active power is 0.8 times the apparent power, and the unit is KW.
(3) The rated power of a diesel generator set refers to the power that can be continuously operated for 12 hours.
(4) The maximum power is 1.1 times the rated power, but it is only allowed to be used for 1 hour within 12 hours.
(5) The economic power is 0.75 times the rated power, which is the output power of the diesel generator set that can be operated for a long time without time restrictions. When running at this power, fuel is the most economical and the failure rate is the lowest.
When choosing a diesel generator set, you can calculate the size of the load you need in advance, and then choose a generator set based on the load size.
1. First, we need to distinguish the difference between the apparent power and effective power of the diesel generator set. The relationship between them is 1KVA=0.8KW.
2. Secondly, we need to determine the rated power and maximum power of the diesel generator set to be selected.
3. In addition, determining the power of the generator set is not to simply add up the power of all electrical appliances, but also to consider the starting method of the electrical appliances. The general starting method is divided into direct starting and step-down starting or variable frequency starting. The starting current of the former is about 6 times the working current, and the instantaneous power will also reach 6 times the rated power; the starting current of the latter is about 3 times, and the instantaneous power is also 3 times the rated power. Therefore, when selecting the power of the generator set, in addition to considering the sum of the power of all electrical appliances, it is also necessary to consider the starting power of each electrical appliance.

Reminder: Under normal circumstances, 0.8 times the output power of the diesel generator set is the output power of the actual generator set. In this way, it can not only keep the generator set from overloading, but also ensure that the generator set will not run at low load for a long time, thereby extending the service life of the diesel generator set. In addition, diesel generator sets are non-continuous power generation equipment. If they run continuously for more than 12 hours, their output power will be about 90% lower than the rated power. If users need to use it for a long time without interruption, they need to configure a common generator set, that is, the generator set should take into account the power drop of the unit after long-term operation.
